The Inevitable

I wrote this over a year ago but it was discernment that I tossed aside.
Don't toss discernment aside, people. It's a beautiful thing.

His eyes were different today.
When previously they had looked into her
They now looked past her.
Totally disengaged.

They were sad.
Seeing in front of them the masterpiece they once enjoyed
Inconsolable at the idea they'd never own it.

So instead of admitting their loss,
They looked toward it with total disinterest
Covering their shame with an indifferent glaze
That spoke the words:
"You were never that beautiful."
